ERA=SSU & Abortion??

Senators Ted Kennedy and Barbara Boxer reintroduced the failed ERA constitutional amendment hoping to get it passed this time around. House Judiciary Committee Chair Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) said recently he plans to hold hearings on the ERA.

Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, said that the conservative coalition would strongly oppose the “outdated” measure, according to a March 28 article in the Washington Times.

Courts have used state-passed ERA measures to declare same-sex “marriage” legal in Hawaii and to force taxpayers to subsidize abortions in New Mexico, she said.

Maryland also has a state ERA amendment currently being used as part of an argument to legalize same-sex marriage.

But Moore said same-sex marriage has nothing to do with the ERA.

Gay activist groups would also benefit. Feminists readily admit they want ERA to address "gender-based hate crimes." Wording in the amendment focuses on sexual discrimination.

"It's pretty clear now that it would give same-sex marriages," Schlafly said. "There is a close alliance between the feminists and the gay-rights movement."
